Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The series is written by Rick Riordan, and is based around Greek Gods and other mythological Greek creatures. This is Part 1 of the book, as I haven't read the 2nd half. In this book, there are Half-Bloods: mixes between Gods and mortals. When a human has a kid with a God, a Half-Blood is born. And usually, that Half-Blood has special powers, for example, if your dad was Ares, the God of War, you would be blessed with abnormal strength and leadership. Or if your mom was Aphrodite, the goddess of Love, you would be blessed with something like charmspeak. Charmspeak is a gift that allows you to put power into your words to get others to do your bidding.
Usually, when Gods get married to mortals, they divorce as soon as they are about to have a baby. That is because if the Half-Blood knows that he is not a regular human, monsters will be able to sense that and hunt for him. Usually, monsters figure out their scent when Half-Bloods reach puberty, and then the monsters attack them. That is what camp Half-Blood is for. Camp Half-Blood is a place where Half-Bloods can come when they are at that age for a safe place, to not have to worry about monsters. When you arrive at camp, your Godly Parent usually reveals themselves as your Parent by burning a mark on their arm with their symbol. For example, if your mom was Athena, your mark would be an Owl, Athena's sacred animal, or an olive tree, the gift to the city of Athens thus why it was named after her.
At camp, there are different cabins for who your parent is. At Camp, they have a schedule of activities, like gardening, Capture the Flag, and more. Satyrs, half goat - half man creatures, roam around and act as escorts for Half-Bloods who want to get to Camp.
This is the premise the book is set on, and half the book spends time explaining all this. I haven't really read any story yet, but I will make a part two after I finish the book.
