The lesson of this song is that you can choose to be happy or you can choose to be negative and you can choose to be sad. There are always things you can be happy about and there are always things that you can be sad about. You can choose to take the circumstances you have and be happy and grateful about it or you can be disappointed and always want more.
In the odd ones out song, the happy person (left) focuses on the positives. The sad person (right) focuses on the negative.
They both see the same world. The happy guy isn't arguing with the sad guy about facts. He simply chooses to target his energy toward those things that are wholesome and good. Importantly those things also happen to be more focused on his circle of influence. In contrast the sad things are largely outside his control and so spending time dwelling on this doesn't make a difference anyway.
The key message is that we have a choice. We can choose to focus on the positive or the negative things in our lives. There are objective facts about our world and our circumstances but how we choose to view these facts is largely up to us. We can decide that our circumstances mean that we should feel miserable, or we can look at the same facts and decide to be grateful.
I think all people should choose to focus on the positive. Many try sometimes but we should all make a conscious effort.
