How to Discover Great Project Ideas?

WEquil.School is a project-based learning (PBL) program for kids who learn better by doing real things to prepare for the real world. We help to facilitate this dynamic student-led approach by helping to structure "Creative Projects" tailored to each students needs and unique strengths and interests of our students.

We have a lot of tools, examples, and services to help families at WEquil.School come up with great project ideas!

Lets dive right in...

Weekly Theme and Process

Every Monday our founders livestream our "Theme of the Week" at 9am Eastern time! Students can do projects on anything, but some enjoy collaborating around our themes. Published projects on WEquil.App receives mentions on Monday so if you published be sure to watch!

We then present our projects on Friday (Demo Day) ... at the same time (9am) so you can watch our whole weekly process!

Great projects are added to each students “Digital Resume” on WEquil.App! This portfolio of projects creates a lot of value for students by showcasing accomplishments that help them build confidence, make new friends that share their interests, connect with potential employers, and get into top colleges and universities!

Creative Learning Process

So how can parents discover great project ideas?

WEquil.School uses a Creative Learning Process to help our students come up with great project ideas. Student mentors, parents, and other community members are welcome to help. The process is simple enough ... requiring just three questions...

  1. What are your interests?

  2. Why do you this interesting?

  3. How could you use this interest to help people?

Asking about interests is a great way to build relationships because you are putting the focus on them. You are building their confidence while helping people explore and accept themselves. There are so many questions you can ask...

  1. What interests you?

  2. What are your strengths?

  3. What do you do for fun?

  4. What do you like to talk to your friends about?

  5. Who are your personal heroes?

  6. What's your favorite memory?

  7. What are some of your favorite accomplishments?

  8. Have you ever thought about starting a business?

  9. If you could buy anything what would it be?

  10. If you could make anything what would you make?

  11. If you could go anywhere where would you go?

  12. If you could meet anyone who would you meet?

  13. If you could have any superpower what would it be?

  14. What qualities do you look for in a friend?

  15. What qualities do you hope your friends see in you?

  16. What's one thing you love about yourself?

  17. What is your favorite part of the day?

  18. What is one subject you wish you knew more about?

  19. When was a time you laughed really hard?

  20. When was a time that you were so happy that nothing else mattered?

"Why?" is the greatest questions ever because it is so simple and yet opens the mind to dig deeper. You want to help people learn about themselves ... and asking them why they think certain things are interesting gives them more opportunity to search for meaning.

The final step is often the hardest because we may not always know how our interests can be helpful to others. However, connecting our strengths and interests with adding value to others is the only way we will ever find equilibrium (our Mission). It's the process of seeking out how our unique selves can be useful that provides the north star to success.
