Hello! Today I will be teaching about CPUs. A CPU is one of the main pieces of hardware in a PC. Unlike the mouse, keyboard, or monitor the CPU is in the PC itself. Without the CPU the PC would just be a box of junk lying on a table. The work it provides is necessary for the computer.
The CPU is responsible for processing and executing instructions, in other words, it's the brain of the PC. It works closely with the main memory and the primary storage, normally checking them for data and instructions. The CPU uses a mathematical operation known as an arithmetic logic unit (ALU). For example, if the CPU had instructions to do something it would get info from memory, then it uses its ALU to do the operation, lastly, it takes the new operation and puts it back into memory. This process happens millions-billions times a second.
Some of the top brands for CPUs are AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Hewlett-Packard, Acer Inc, and Motorola. Some of these brands focus specifically on CPUs and others make CPUs along with laptops, pcs, etc. where they might add the CPU into the device or sell them separately. The price can vary depending on the quality of the CPU. Most cost 100-500 dollars. Some really amazing ones might cost 500-3000 dollars, there are also some Super high-end CPUs that can skyrocket close to 15-20k. Almost every computer won’t need won’t need a super high-end CPU and can easily work well with a lower quality one.
Depending on the brand the CPUs specialize in different things. For example, the AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs are very strong overall whereas the Intel Core i5-10600k is still good all around but mainly specializes in gaming. So, depending on the brand and/or model there are different strengths for each type. Whether you're looking for a CPU for work, school, gaming, budget, efficiency, etc. there will always be one for what you need.
